Back cover story synopsis
Desperate To Survive is
a heart wrenching true story of how family wealth can turn one
adult child against another. On stealing her mother's will and
finding it not in her favor, a sister launches a sadistic attack
that will eventually overwhelm her brother, the rightful heir,
leaving him in total moral and financial ruin. The story details
the day-by-day account of the pain and suffering the brother
endures after being evicted from the family home and finding
himself homeless in the Sudbury area of Northern Ontario during
one of the coldest winters on record. With little food,
practically no heat, and only snow for water, he approaches the
edge of death itself. In trying to regain a sense of stability,
he suffers through embarrassment, humiliation, and the dangerous
world of drugs, eventually finding himself 2,300 miles from the
home he once knew. Desperate To Survive is a powerful story with
a lesson that can teach us how to avoid family disaster when
making a will.

Excerpt
from the book
As daylight approached, I thought about that night and what had
happened.
Later that morning, when I got out of my truck, I found my keys
on the ground near the door, and about three feet away was the
gun loaded with the safety off. What happened in the early hours
of that morning is still, to this day, (October 27, 2004) a
mystery to me. I don't know what the light in front of me was but it saved my life. However, unknown to me, future events
would reveal what that light was. One year later, almost exactly
to the minute, on February 5, 2005 an event was going to happen
that would shock and stun me.
It not only revealed, exactly what was shining in my eyes but it
would also solved a fifteen-year-old family mystery.

Ruthless Sister - Leaves Brother Desperate to Survive!
Sudbury, ON., Canada –
Oct. 1, 2005.
Author Gordon Baker, announced today the release of his book,
Desperate To Survive (ISBN: 1-59526-011-0). Based on a true
story, this book gives a dramatic account of the terrible pain
and suffering the author's sister inflicted on him, in her
attempt to become the sole heir to the family's $300,000 estate.
Every week, in courts across North America, wars are being
fought between siblings as they try to gain total control over
family estates. Unless it's a high profile case, these family
feuds never make the news, yet they are every bit as vicious as
war itself. However, one man from Canada, a casualty of a brutal
family feud, gives us a rare and sensational glimpse inside his
life. We follow the deceit and betrayal of his sister as she
destroys much of the estate, trying to win a shallow victory.

Press Release
The story begins when the sister
steals her mother’s Will. Upon reading it,
she discovers it’s not in her favor. As the days go by she
becomes obsessed with the content,
until a rage has built up inside of her. She then sets in motion
a chain of events that in the end overwhelm her brother
financially, physically and emotionally. With very little money
left the brother can no longer afford a lawyer, he then looses
the power of attorney, his mother
granted him and he is unable to continue looking after his
mother or her estate. The sister continues her assault until she
has him evicted from the family home.
The brother now finds himself
physically weak, emotionally distraught and homeless. It is mid
January 2004 and he only has his truck to live in just as one of
the coldest winters in 20 years is taking hold. With no room he
had to leave most of his belongings behind.
For the next eight weeks he had to
endure what can only be described as hell on earth as the winter
temperatures plunged to minus 40 degrees. With hardly any heat,
very little food, only snow for water and no way to wash himself
or his clothes, the days became almost unbearable to the point
where he considered ending his life more than once. He was not a
religious man but during the darkest times he bowed his head and
prayed. He prayed that he would not die without seeing his
mother again. There was also a strong hatred growing inside of
him, for he had eight weeks to curse
his sister.
When he was finally found by the
police his condition was serious and his frame of mind was
fragile. For the next few days he had to endure humiliation.
When released from police custody he
was taken to a shelter, where he felt
very uncomfortable. It was here he befriended a man who told him
he was on his way home to the Okanagan, in British Columbia and
that there was plenty of work out there. Since finding a job was
critical, the brother went across
Canada with his new found friend. The brother at this point
gave no thought to the consequences and it turned out to be a
fatal error. Within days of arriving out west he realized this
fellow was a drug user and dealer. It was too late,
for he became caught in the dark and dangerous world of drugs.
It took three months before the
brother could finally escape from this dangerous world. He
secured a job and believed the worst was now behind him.
However, there would still be a few
more obstacles to overcome
The ordeal this man went through has
left him changed and scared forever. Everything he owned, his
father’s possessions and some of his mothers that were to be
inherited are gone. He is a long way from the home he knew, now
in a strange part of the country and more alone than he has ever
been in his life. There is only one thing that occupies his
mind, to avenge what has been done to him.
